KARLY LEWIS - Karly Lewis is an educator from Lethbridge, Alberta, with 26 years of teaching experience. She holds a Music Degree from the University of Lethbridge, where she studied horn with Dr. Thomas Staples, and received her Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Calgary.

Karly’s has been actively involved with the Lethbridge Community Band Society since 1990 as a performer and leader, serving as Chair of the Artistic Development Committee for 6 years and the Conductor Search Committee in 2016. An accomplished French horn performer, she has performed with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra, Bridge Brass Quintet, musical theatre ensembles, and the Lethbridge Community Gold Band. Her contributions to music extend beyond Lethbridge through service on the Women's Band Directors International Board and the Alberta Band Association Board of Directors, the Career and Technology Education Council as well as the Teacher Welfare Committee for the Lethbridge School Division.

TANYA ARNOLD - Tanya Arnold’s musical life was shaped early by inspiring teachers and the outstanding band programs of Tom Magnuson and Blaine Mclarey. Beginning on clarinet in Grade 5, she soon discovered the bassoon, which became central to her musical studies and performance. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Regina, studying with composer and bassoon instructor Tom Schudel. During her university years, Tanya performed with the University Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, and Chamber Choirs, and spent three years as a member of the Regina Symphony Orchestra.

Her teaching career began in Regina, where she taught music at Scott Collegiate and summer music theory at the Saskatchewan School of the Arts. These early experiences deepened her appreciation for symphonic band literature and the role of ensemble music in student development.

After teaching for a year in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Tanya moved to Lethbridge, where she spent ten years at Winston Churchill High School. There, she taught concert band, choir, and jazz band, and founded the WCHS Jazz Choir. She also completed a Master of Music degree under the mentorship of Vondis Miller, sang with the University of Lethbridge Chamber Choir, and conducted the University of Lethbridge Wind Ensemble for one year.

Tanya’s career later took her abroad through a two-year contract with the Department of Defence in Lahr, Germany. Upon returning to Lethbridge, she continued teaching at Nicholas Sheran Community School.

She and her family subsequently spent 26 years away from Lethbridge while Tanya pursued a career in international schools, teaching music and earning a certificate in counselling.

Now retired in Lethbridge, Tanya remains active as a bassoon teacher, clinician, guest conductor, and member of the Lethbridge Community Gold Band.

She is pleased to share conducting duties for the Gold Band with Karly Lewis, continuing a musical life that brings together performance, teaching, and leadership.
