KEN ROGERS - conductor of the LCBS BRASS BAND

In the fall of 2024, Ken Rogers will assume conductor duties with the LCBS BRASS BAND.

Ken comes once again to the LCBS with a very deep and varied background and experience in conductor ensembles. Ken performs with many groups as a bass trombonist including the Lethbridge Big Band and as vocalist.

He spend almost a decade conducting our Silver Band and then the Gold Band, to which you can add to his experience countless musicals as conductor in collaboration with the late Fran Rude and a leader of the McKillop Church choir.

Ken, now retired, has taught music in numerous Southern Alberta schools finishing his teaching career at LCI Collegiate.

The LCBS Brass Band was initiated in 2015 through the interest and initiative of Josh Davies. The ensemble consists solely of brass instrumentation in the tradition of the British brass bands and more recently U.S. brass bands.

The size of the ensemble varies from as few as 10 ( a "brass choir") to as many as 30 . The society in 2019 was the recipient of a matching grant from the Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta Community Foundation which permitted the acquisition of a variety of special and unique instruments which are typically only used in a brass band.

The music undertaken has been demanding . The group typically performs two concerts per year, with a rehearsal schedule that is tied to those two performances.

Starting in 2022, Tanya Arnold began podium duties as conductor in collaboration with Josh Davies as the Brass Director.

DR. JOSH DAVIES - FOUNDER AND BRASS DIRECTOR - LCBS BRASS BAND

Josh Davies is an accomplished trumpeter, clinician, adjudicator who has played with multiple North American symphonies and brass ensembles.

Dr. Josh Davies is a two-time Grammy nominated performer that enjoys a diverse career as a versatile performer and educator. He has performed extensively throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada and Europe in places such as Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas and the Southern Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary. Josh can be heard on over 20 CD's with various labels in jazz, classical, alternative, rock, latin, tejano, and funk styles.

Josh regularly performs with the Kamloops Symphony in Kamloops, BC, and the Regina Symphony in Regina, SK in Canada. Outside of Canada he often performs with the Orquesta Sinfónica de la UANL (Monterrey Symphony Orchestra) in Monterrey, Mexico, where he held the position of co-principal trumpet for the 2009-2010 season. Prior to moving to Lethbridge he was principal trumpet of the Round Rock Symphony for four years and has also performed with symphony orchestras of Austin, Abilene, Brazos Valley, Lethbridge, Monterrey, Monterrey Chamber, San Antonio Chamber, Temple, and Victoria, as well as The Austin Chamber Ensemble The Austin Chamber Winds, The Austin Lyric Opera and the Monterrey Metropolitan Opera Company.

As an educator, Dr. Davies is an Academic Assistant at the University of Lethbridge in Lethbridge, AB, Canada where he teaches studio trumpet, jazz history and is the director of the U of L Jazz Ensemble. Previous university teaching positions include Temple College and The University of Texas at Austin, Concordia University-Texas and Texas State University. He regularly presents master classes and performances at universities and festivals throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Dr. Davies holds a Doctoral of Musical Arts and a Master of Music degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelors of Music degree from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His principal teachers include Michael Miller, Edward Bach, and Ray Sasaki (trumpet); Steve Haines, Dennis Dotson, and Jeff Helmer (Jazz).

TANYA ARNOLD - FORMER CONDUCTOR LCBS BRASS BAND

Music has been woven into the fabric of Tanya’s life from an early age. Singing at home, in school and church choirs and playing in a variety of bands with her five siblings, music permeated each day from a very young age.

Tanya has a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Regina and a Masters of Music Degree from the university of Calgary. She has played bassoon in the Regina Symphony, Lethbridge Symphony , and currently the Lethbridge Community Gold Band. She has conducted a variety of groups including: the University of Lethbridge Wind Ensemble, University Singers (Assistant conductor with Dr. George Evelyn), the Lethbridge Jazz Society Gospel choir, LCBS Tuba Christmas and is currently conducting the LCBS Brass band, with Director Dr Josh Davies.

In Lethbridge, Tanya taught music at Winston Churchill High School and Nicholas Sheran Elementary school. Catching a bug for adventure,

Upon retirement, Tanya has again had music to help her reconnect with old friends, make new friends and generally keep her busy doing what she loves.

Tanya concluded conducting duties with the LCBS BRASS BAND in the spring of 2024, after presenting numerous concerts in the Brass Band style.

Tanya is very grateful for the opportunities the vibrant Lethbridge music community provides for those who live and love music on a daily basis.
